While the original Battle Spirit (released in the West simply as Digimon Battle Spirit ) was a solid game, 1.5 functions as a "complete edition." It addressed the criticisms of the original Wonderswan release and added significant content that never left Japan.

Digimon Battle Spirit 1.5 has a dedicated fan base, and its impact can still be seen in modern Digimon games. The game's success led to the creation of sequels, including Digimon Battle Spirit 2 and Digimon Battle Revolution.

To stop this, the original tournament's top fighters must re-enter the Coliseum—but this time, they can't fight alone. The glitch forces Tag Battles (a new mechanic for 1.5). Each fighter must pair with a former enemy or rival.
