Free — Fall Movie |best|
Hosts a staggering database of over 275,000 movies and television episodes.
This paper examines the phenomenon of major studio and independent films deliberately releasing outside the September–November “fall corridor” traditionally reserved for awards contenders. Using box office data, marketing budgets, and critical reception from 2015–2025, we argue that the “fall movie free” strategy—premiering in late summer (August) or early winter (December post-awards cutoff)—signals a rejection of festival-driven validation. Case studies include Free Guy (August 2021), Bullet Train (August 2022), and Anyone But You (December 2023). The paper concludes that being “fall free” allows comedies, action films, and genre movies to capture counter-programming audiences fatigued by prestige dramas. fall movie free
