Shockwave Flash Plugin

Flash operated as a browser plugin. This meant it ran as a separate process inside the browser window. It was essentially a "black box"—the browser (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer) had little control over what Flash was doing.

The death of Flash threatened to erase a massive chunk of internet history. Thousands of games and animations were essentially lost. In response, the non-profit BlueMaxima’s Flashpoint project was launched. It is an archive that has preserved over 100,000 Flash games and animations, allowing them to be played offline using a secure, sandboxed version of the player. This ensures that the cultural contributions of the Flash era remain accessible to future generations. shockwave flash plugin
