If you are importing a DWG/DXF file specifically, SketchUp has a built-in feature to solve this before you even start.
You import a DWG floor plan with walls as lines. Instead of tracing each room, you select all edges, click “Make Face” – and every enclosed area becomes a separate face, including door/window openings as holes.
