Fincher’s version is slicker, darker, and more cinematic. Noomi Rapace was excellent as Lisbeth, but Mara goes deeper. The Swedish film feels like a TV miniseries; Fincher’s feels like a prestige thriller. That said, the original has a rawer, more documentary-like grit that some prefer.

The story begins with Blomkvist, the publisher of a small magazine, being sued for libel by a wealthy businessman. To save his magazine, he agrees to investigate the disappearance of a young woman named Harriet Vanger, which occurred 40 years ago.
