Driver: Twain ~upd~
The name was inspired by Rudyard Kipling's The Ballad of East and West : "...and never the twain shall meet." It symbolized the difficulty of connecting scanners and PCs at the time the standard was created in 1992.
A TWAIN driver acts as a translator between software (the Application) and hardware (the Data Source). Before TWAIN was established, every scanner manufacturer had to write custom drivers for every application, and software developers had to write specific code to support every brand of scanner. driver twain
