The defining characteristic of Venezuela’s spatial distribution is the "Northern Problem." Despite being the sixth-largest country in South America, the vast majority of its population—estimated at over 80%—lives in a narrow strip of land representing less than 20% of the national territory.

In this northern corridor, population density skyrockets. In the Capital District (Caracas), density can exceed 4,000 inhabitants per square kilometer. This creates a landscape of vertical urbanization, where mountainsides are terraced with housing, and cities spill into one another, blurring the lines between municipalities.
