The history dates back to the era of the Mahabharata. The idol is believed to be the same one originally worshipped by Krishna's wife, Rukmini. Later, a devotee named Bodana Bhatt used to walk to Dwarka every six months to worship the idol. When he became too old to walk, legend says Lord Krishna asked him to bring the idol to his village. This act of moving the deity to the village gave Dakor its sacred status.
