Some linguistic anthropologists propose that Gilfaf is a surviving remnant of a constructed language (conlang) from the early 20th century. During the rise of Esperanto and Volapük, hundreds of auxiliary languages were created to foster world peace. Gilfaf, with its harsh consonants and truncated words, may have been an experimental trade language designed for written correspondence rather than speech.
