With preparations complete and the drive selected, the physical installation begins. For a desktop computer, this process is straightforward: power down, unplug all cables, open the side panel, and locate an empty drive bay. The new drive is slid into place, secured with screws on either side, and connected via two cables: a SATA data cable from the drive to the motherboard, and a SATA power cable from the power supply. Laptops are more delicate, often requiring the removal of a bottom panel or keyboard to access a dedicated drive caddy. The old drive is unscrewed, unplugged, and replaced by the new one. In both cases, the golden rule is gentleness and patience—forcing a connection or overtightening a screw can damage delicate components.
