The most defining characteristic of JetAudio was its user interface. While other players looked like software windows, JetAudio mimicked physical consumer electronics. The default skin looked like a rack-mounted stereo system, complete with a spectrum analyzer, glowing VU meters, and distinct buttons for EQ, Rip, Convert, and Record.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, the digital audio landscape was defined by a war between simplicity and complexity. While Winamp championed the minimalist, modular approach, went in the opposite direction. It was the "kitchen sink" media player—a software suite that tried to do absolutely everything and, surprisingly, succeeded.
