There are three levels of reset, ranging from a simple soft reboot to a full hard reset.

A soft reset is the fastest way to resolve minor software bugs, such as a frozen touchscreen or Apple CarPlay/Android Auto disconnects. This method reboots the system without deleting your saved stations or paired devices. Turn the ignition on (engine does not need to be running).
