Imagine wrapping a gift. If you wrap a flat box, the paper stays smooth. If you try to wrap a sphere or a complex curved shape without cutting the paper, you have to stretch and tear the paper to make it fit. TopSolid does the same thing digitally: it stretches the wood grain image to cover the surface, causing ugly distortions that look like cracks at the seams.
