Following Halford’s departure in 1992, the band found a remarkable replacement in Tim "Ripper" Owens, an American fan who fronted a Priest tribute band. The Ripper era is divisive among purists. Jugulator leaned heavily into modern, groove-metal territory, featuring downtuned guitars and darker themes. While it lacked the polish of the Halford years, Owens’ vocal performance was staggering, proving the music could survive without the Metal God.
