The origins of the funeral home are intrinsically linked to William “Buck” Alexander, a prominent figure in Chatham’s history. Born in the mid-19th century, Alexander was part of the generation of Black Canadians who solidified their roots in southwestern Ontario following the abolition of slavery.

Following the tenure of William Alexander, the business transitioned to the Brent family, who maintained the name and legacy of the establishment for decades. Under the management of the Brent family, the funeral home continued to serve Chatham through periods of significant social change.
