After Effects Starglow -
The "Threshold" setting determines which pixels get the glow. By raising the threshold, you ensure only the hottest highlights—like a reflection on chrome or a light bulb—trigger the effect, keeping the rest of your image clean. How to Use Starglow Effectively
: Features a "Threshold" setting to precisely control which parts of the image trigger the glow. after effects starglow
At its core, Trapcode Starglow is a fast-rendering glow effect, but to define it merely as a "glow" is to undersell its complexity. Unlike the native "Glow" effect in After Effects, which creates a soft, uniform halo around bright pixels, Starglow is directional. It breaks the traditional circular glow into distinct streaks or rays. Technically, the plugin analyzes the luminance values of a layer and emanates light based on those values. The user can define the direction, length, and intensity of these rays through a unique interface: the Directional Offsets map. This feature allows motion designers to create custom shimmer patterns—ranging from a simple four-point star to complex, 50-point kaleidoscopic glints—by assigning values to eight different directions. This level of granular control transforms the plugin from a simple filter into a sophisticated lighting instrument. The "Threshold" setting determines which pixels get the glow
