If you install Office on a "Golden Image" computer, and you plan to clone that computer to 50 other machines, you want the licensing state to be clean. If you don't rearm the image before capturing it, the cloned computers might fail activation or report weird licensing errors because they all think they are the same machine with the same timer.

You cannot just type ospprearm into a random command prompt and expect magic. The file is not in your system PATH . It is a specific executable hidden deep in the belly of your hard drive.
