Javier Bardem is a Spanish giant with an otherworldly stillness (think No Country for Old Men ). Jeffrey Dean Morgan is the American cowboy (think The Walking Dead ). Yet, put them in a dark room with a scowl? Indistinguishable. Morgan famously beat out Bardem for the role of the Comedian in Watchmen because fans couldn’t tell the difference anyway. Both have that "kindly lumberjack who could kill you" energy.

On the flip side, this can be used for brilliant misdirection. If you cast a "Deja Vu Hero" as the bad guy, you can pull off a massive twist. The recent trend of casting comedians in dark, villainous roles (like Bill Hader in It or John Krasinski in A Quiet Place ) plays on our expectations, subverting the Deja Vu to shock us. deja vu actors
