If the duct is narrowed (stenosis) but not fully scarred shut, a balloon catheter may be used. A tiny balloon is inserted into the duct and inflated to stretch the passage. The balloon is then deflated and removed.
If there is an active infection (indicated by redness, swelling, and pus), a doctor will prescribe antibiotic eye drops or oral antibiotics. Antibiotics treat the infection, but they do not cure the physical blockage. The obstruction must still be addressed.
